The Algerian government-owned company Sonatrach is an important part of the Algerian economy, taking advantage of the country’s rich hydrocarbon resources and experience in oil and gas refining. The in-house legal team is responsible for all legal matters involving the public company relating to all areas of the company’s business. Hafed Nassim Stambouli, head of the international litigation department, leads the contentious work team within the central legal department. In the last year, the legal team has overseen some major transactions and deals including the opening of a new pier at the company’s oil port of Skikda for the transport of liquefied natural gas, arranging the partnerships required for its construction. Additionally, the Sonatrach legal team worked on the reinforcement of the company’s partnership with Total in its market of petrochemicals and petroleum products.
