Tullow Oil is a major independent African oil company operating in Ghana and other parts of West Africa, East Africa, Pakistan, Brazil and the UK with its headquarters in London, UK. Founded in a small Irish town named Tullow in 1986, the company focused on small productions of oil in West Africa and has since grown to become one of the largest independent oil companies in the world with more than 80 exploration and production licences across 16 countries. The in-house legal team, based in London, is responsible for the smooth operation of the company through multi-jurisdictional, regulatory and commercial territories. The team is adept at these challenges and is a major component in the company’s continued success, exemplified by Tullow Oil in 2017 succeeding in generating US$543m free cash flow and reducing its company debt to US$3.5bn. The company also, with the assistance of its legal team, carried out a rights issue of US$750m, expanded operations in Ghana and Cote d’Ivoire and launched two new oil fields in Kenya, the Amosing and Ngamia fields.
