General counsel ANZ / Asia (Acting) | Computershare

About

Since 2011, Mark has worked as an in-house counsel at Computershare Limited, which is a global market leader in share registration, transfer agency, employee equity plans, stakeholder communications and related services.  In 2019, he was appointed general counsel of Computershare’s Australian and New Zealand (ANZ) legal team and, more recently, he assumed responsibility for Computershare’s Asia legal team (in an acting capacity).  Mark is responsible for providing strategic legal advice across all areas of Computershare’s business units in the Asia-Pacific region and is a member of Computershare’s Global Legal Leadership team and regional executive team in ANZ.  His other key responsibilities include: developing legal strategy to support the delivery of corporate, regulatory and business unit objectives across the region, overseeing critical contract negotiations and acting as company secretary for all Australian based subsidiaries of the Computershare group.  Mark is also Computershare’s Whistleblower Officer for Asia-Pacific.  Before joining Computershare, Mark worked for ANZ (one of Australia’s major banking institutions) as a corporate lawyer in the bank’s retail products division.  He started his career at Blake Dawson Waldron (now Ashurst) as a litigator, ‘cutting his teeth’ on one of Australia’s largest and longest-running disputes, the Bell Group Litigation.  Mark says he feels “humbled” to be included in this year’s GC 500 list for Australia:

I’ve worked with some great people over the journey, both at Blake Dawson (Ashurst) where I started out and then at ANZ Bank where I took on my first in-house role.  But I’ve been with Computershare since 2011 and in being selected for the GC Powerlist, I’d like to specifically acknowledge the contribution Computershare has made to my career and to me personally.  My work experience has been enriched by so many terrific and talented people across Computershare’s business and Legal team (many of whom are now friends, not just work colleagues).  I’d also like to acknowledge the support and guidance of Dominic Horsley (Computershare’s Group General Counsel) and call-out my small (but proud) Team of talented lawyers for the sensational work they do in supporting me and the Computershare business more generally.”
