Joining Bunge, the global food production company, as an in-house counsel in 2011, Jose Castelli already held a multitude of private practice experience gained from leading law firms. Castelli currently oversees a compact team with three direct reports in a function that has emphasis on working with a ‘proactive attitude’. With an impressive career background in leading Argentinian law firms Allende & Brea and Bruchou, Fernández Madero & Lombardi, and firms abroad (Cravath, Swaine & Moore in New York), Castelli brings a tremendous amount of experience to help shape and grow the company, most notably in ‘structuring M&As’. Castelli has earned a reputation of being able to complete deals in a timely fashion, which is particularly important considering the nature of the commodities market. Castelli describes this as being a situation where ‘time is of the essence’ and in a market that is liable to volatile swings that requires quick and decisive judgments from the legal team. In addition to the these daily pressures, Castelli has taken a guiding role for the company amidst a changing legislative background in Argentina; the national Congress recently approving a new civil and commercial code that changed the way companies have to deal with issues. Castelli enjoys a good relationship with his business colleagues, reporting to the regional CEO and working with senior management as a team.
