SKYCITY Entertainment was established in 1996 as the owner of the SKYCITY Auckland complex and in 1998, the company took over regional operations from the gaming operator Harrah’s Entertainment. Today SKYCITY owns and operates casinos in New Zealand and Australia, alongside many restaurants, bars, luxury hotels, convention centres and Auckland’s Sky Tower. Despite an array of market challenges encountered in the last decade by the business across the company’s diverse operations in Australasia, the legal team’s focused and business centric advice has helped the company thrive. Led by highly commended lawyer Jo Wong, the team stands out with its long-term strategy, as well as its expertise in handling corporate transactions. Over her tenure as general counsel and company secretary of just only one year, Wong has utilised her previous seven-year experience as the company’s deputy general counsel and streamlined processes within the unit, achieving even greater operational efficiency. Previously, she served in-house at the Hanover Group and as a senior solicitor at Russell McVeagh.
