What are the most significant cases or transactions that your legal team has recently been involved in?

The most relevant cases that our legal department has worked on are related to M&A and capital market transactions, legal support in transactions for the purchase of goods and services by the company, and sale of our products to customers in Brazil and more than 117 other countries. We have also provided legal support in contracts between the company and more than 10,000 integrated producers, defence of the company in litigation proceedings, legal support in regulatory matters and interaction with regulatory bodies in the food industry, management of intellectual property assets, especially trademark registration in Brazil and abroad, legal support in the management of estate assets, in addition to legal advice on environmental and labour issues and acting in the practice of personal data privacy.

In addition, the team actively participates in working groups in sectoral entities and associations, contributing strongly to topics of interest to the company’s sector of activity, agribusiness and food production. The legal team’s mission is to provide legal certainty to the company in the conduct of its business, mitigating risks and ensuring that its strategic decisions reflect the legislative and regulatory environment within which it operates, all in line with its main values ​​of quality, safety and integrity.

How important is choosing to work with external lawyers who align with your company’s values? Are you likely to reconsider what firms you work with based on this?

Undoubtedly, alignment with the company’s values ​​is a determining factor for external lawyers to work with the us. The principles that the company is guided by when conducting business must be observed by everyone, including external lawyers. As a way of formally assuring the commitment of external lawyers to our values, the company includes clauses containing obligations in this regard, in the contracts signed with these professionals. If this alignment is not verified in practice, the relationship between the company and the external lawyer will be reviewed, that is, it will certainly be terminated.

As we live in a fast-paced world today, what skills will a corporate legal team need to succeed in the modern in-house industry?

Given the scenario of the world we live in, in my opinion, the corporate legal team must present skills such as teamwork, efficient communication with business partners, a sense of urgency, resilience, creativity, incessant search for results, in addition to a deep knowledge of the business. It is crucial to understand what the company does and how works. I believe that with these skills, the legal team will be successful in the modern in-house industry.
