What are the most significant cases or transactions that your legal team has recently been involved in?
Concerning the electric power sector, in 2021, our legal department was responsible for the legal defence and strategy that guaranteed ANEEL board of directors a final decision maintaining the already consolidated understanding of authorization of reinforcements and inapplicability of article 65 (1) of law 8666, amendment of concession agreement. In the construction sector, we were tasked with the establishment of the dispute board, as an alternative dispute resolution method with a permanent committee that monitored and provided solution for the disputes that emerged during the contract execution.
As we live in a fast-paced world today, what skills will a corporate legal team need to succeed in the modern in-house industry?
In my opinion, one skill that corporate counsel will need to succeed in the modern in-house industry is a baseline knowledge of economics and data analysis skills, as a way of improving their guidance and advice to their business partners, all for the greater benefit of the company.
How do you suggest in-house lawyers build strong relationships with business partners?
To build a strong relationship with business partners, I would suggest that in-house lawyers support the business in the decision-making process, as part of it, assuming this responsibility and not acting only as a legal counsel.
