What are the most significant cases or transactions that your legal team has recently been involved in?
Most recently, our legal department has been involved in some relevant transactions for our company. We have been continuously working on the implementation of new anti-money laundering laws and regulations, introduced earlier this year in Brazil. Additionally, we have participated in the incorporation of a payment institution in Brazil, a specific type of payment service provider
How important is choosing to work with external lawyers who align with your company’s values? Are you likely to reconsider what firms you work with based on this?
It is a key point of decision for me that the external lawyers are align with StoneX values, which is also fundamental in considering maintaining or changing external counsel.
Looking forward, what technological advancements do you feel will impact the role of in-house legal teams in the future the most? Which have you found most useful in your legal team?
In Brazil, the most relevant technological advance was the acceptance of documents signed online, through a digital signature, which helped the legal team reduce the use of paper and introduce a swifter way of archiving documents in an electronic database.
As we live in a fast-paced world today, what skills will a corporate legal team need to succeed in the modern in-house industry?
I believe that, today, legal teams need a lot of flexibility and fast action to succeed in this new technological and fast changing in-house industry. Adapting to new ways of performing our role is fundamental to thrive in our sector.
How do you suggest in-house lawyers build strong relationships with business partners?
It is important to have the ability to understand the different needs of business partners in other areas, and to have the feeling of urgency for each of the company’s areas.
