Can you give an idea of the most significant cases or transactions that your legal team has recently been involved in?

Like many others, compliance played a key role for us in the previous year. Being in the transport and logistics business, sanction compliance and hence, sanction screening has become more important than ever. At the same time, we have seen new legislation regarding the working conditions of our subcontractors affecting our business. These topics, as well as other compliance topics have required significant work during the last year.

In addition, it has been a busy year when it comes to M&A activity; we completed a large acquisition last year with subsequent integration – and in addition, some smaller transactions. This has also required significant effort from the legal team.

Looking forward, what technological advancements do you feel will impact the role of in-house legal teams in the future the most?

Going forward, I expect to see lawyers having to get more comfortable using and relying more on IT solutions. It still feels like a lot of legal technology is in a maturing phase, but more and more solutions that can really make life easier for lawyers and legal departments are becoming available.

I am extremely excited to see what AI can do in the time to come – automated contract review and legal assessments, among others – performed by AI supported systems could potentially be a big game changer for the legal profession, a big advantage to those embracing it.

How has the increasing consciousness of climate change and sustainability affected your company and the team’s priorities?

ESG and sustainability has become an integrated part of many business processes and therefore, also impact legal work in the form of increased due diligence requirements, requirements from and to customers and suppliers in order to enter contracts and participate in procurement processes, among others.
