Brian Salter
Group general counsel | AMP
One of ACLA’s GC100 founding members and its deputy chair, Brian Salter is among Australia’s most known and respected in-house lawyers. Focused on thought leadership in Australian business law, the industry forum’s work ranges from active lobbying for reform to broader examination of current trends within Australia’s in-house legal market. A pre-eminent financial services expert, Salter also chaired and helped found the Australian Securitisation Forum from 1990 to 2004. As GC to one of Australia’s leading financial institutions, Salter joined AMP at the heart of the global financial crisis in 2008, and drew praise from those inside and outside the organisation for his management of one of the most difficult and anomalous periods of its history. Executive director of AMP Superannuation, Salter takes a central role in strategic business planning, working close with the executive board. He was a Clayton Utz partner for nearly 20 years before moving in house.
