What are the most significant cases or transactions that your legal team has recently been involved in?
This would be the ongoing turnover of the 2,934 telecommunications tower assets that our company, EdgePoint Towers, acquired from one of the leading mobile network operators of the Philippines, under a sale and leaseback arrangement. By taking on these towers’ infrastructure, we enable mobile network operators to focus on improving their services and be able to reach underserved regions. We strive to play our role in enhancing digital connectivity and the future-readiness of our country.
Why are in-house lawyers well-placed to drive change in their organisations?
In-house lawyers have a unique position in that most, if not all, departments and functions within a company entail a legal touchpoint, whether it be related to regulatory compliance, contracts, or risk management. Today’s in-house lawyers go beyond providing legal advice, but also have the opportunity to give input to commercial strategy, encourage good governance, and promote a culture of compliance within the organisation.
As we live in a fast-paced world today, what skills will a corporate legal team need to succeed in the modern in-house industry?
A corporate legal team, apart from continuously building technical knowledge, needs to leverage on commercial sense, as well as adopt a solutions-oriented attitude and approach, in order to better support the company’s objectives.
