What are some of the most important matters  your legal team has recently been involved in?

As a private company (a consulting firm of a private placement fund exclusive to professional or qualified institutional investors), we have been involved in the following cases and transactions: we have advised on the establishment of Cayman and Singapore funds; business strategies of energy companies in which the funds invests; domestic and international litigation and international arbitration; and lobbying activities for proposed deregulation to promote the implementation of more wind power projects and lobbying for new legislation to introduce off-shore wind power projects outside of the territorial waters .

What are some innovative business improvement measures that your legal team has implemented at no significant cost?　

Although it cannot be said to be innovative, we are implementing business improvement measures such as standardisation of contracts.

How important is it to select an external law firm that they agree with your company’s values?

We believe that it is important for external law firms to understand and agree with the strategic significance of transactions, our policies for contract negotiations, and our code of conduct and the company ethical guidelines, among others.

What do you think legal members in a company should do to build good relationships with law firms and other business partners?　

To build and maintain good relationships with outside counsels and business persons, I think that it is important for legal team members to be aware of the following issues. Legal team members must understand and be convinced of the company’s business strategy and core values, through dialogue with business division members and management members. They should also maintain open channels of communication with law firms, and other business partners on a daily basis. The “outside counsel policy” together with a list of preferred law firms should be implemented and regularly updated, which helps to nurture shared values among team members.
