What has been the number one challenge that has impacted you over the past year?

In 2022, our team led the business and operational integration of 13 international organisations in more than 50 jurisdictions in the Americas, Europe, Africa and Asia. The process successfully implemented OneCGIAR, which brings together more than 10,000 researchers and support staff to tackle global challenges such as climate change, agriculture, and environmental sustainability, with 33 new research and development initiatives worth close to $1bn annually until 2030.

Looking forward, what technological advancements do you feel will impact the role of in-house legal teams in the future the most?

There is no doubt that everyone is talking about artificial intelligence. In an interview for GC Magazine, I predicted that AI would play a crucial role in our work in LAC in the next decade. Less than five years have passed, and we can now consider integrating AI into our workflows to free up precious time and use our knowledge and skills where they create the most value. This is a game changer for lawyers.

What is a cause, business related or otherwise, that you care about, and why?

I care deeply about environmental sustainability and living within planetary boundaries, and I am thankful to be able to dedicate myself professionally to this cause. I love renewable energy. In Turkey, my home country, my life runs solely on solar and wind energy. In Lima I suffer a bit because it is usually overcast for about eight months a year, so there is a clear need for alternative sustainable solutions here.
