What has been the number one challenge that has impacted you over the past year?

These last years there have been many challenges in terms of economic growth. The biggest challenge has been the political uncertainty in the country, which has had a direct impact on growth, as well as on the financial indicators of our institutional and retail clients. Likewise, the global situation, being complex, has increased the challenges that we have been experiencing.

Due to this, the businesses that we advise as a legal team have diversified their opportunities and, therefore, the legal advice that we usually give to our business partners has also varied. We have had the traditional financial transactions and products, but with important variables as there are new financial and development challenges in many of the companies. Likewise, we have had many new products and opportunities for new projects that have required our legal advice.

Legal work today demands greater input in structuring creative and efficient solutions that help businesses launch innovative new products and financial tools to clients. As a legal team, we must advance along the same lines to add value and be an ally for our businesses.

Looking forward, what technological advancements do you feel will impact the role of in-house legal teams in the future the most?

Digital information: having all the relevant and day-to-day information in digital format is key to surviving in this new era. Legal teams must be able to access information from anywhere and at any time and this is only possible with digitisation and information available to everyone. Likewise, the identification of electronic means that allow businesses to be made more efficient, safe and fast, is essential to generate efficiencies in the teams.

What is a cause, business related or otherwise, that you care about, and why?

I am very interested in working on corporate sustainability and ESG initiatives. From my role, I am very focused on contributing to initiatives with a focus on sustainability (gender, environmental, social). For example, I work very closely leading gender equality initiatives, seeking to make visible the women who are part of Credicorp Capital in Peru, Chile, Colombia, Panama and Miami.

These initiatives are, in my opinion, fundamental in companies with a social conscience and that seek to generate a real change in the way of doing business.
