What has been the number one challenge that has impacted you over the past year?
Over the past few months, political instability and social conflicts have had a terrible impact on our activity. One of our factories was burnt down as a result of the social conflicts, and it was really a blessing that our people suffered no harm. Nevertheless, this whole situation has made our work much more complex. I believe our main challenge has been to assure our different stakeholders that even in such a difficult situation we have been able to comply with our usual standards.
Looking forward, what technological advancements do you feel will impact the role of in-house legal teams in the future the most?
The standardisation of recurring agreements, as well as the automation of the “follow-up” which is done on certain requests submitted to public authorities, these technological advancements could reduce the time spent on non-essential activities.
What is a cause, business related or otherwise, that you care about, and why?
Part-time teaching is an activity I enjoy, both my paternal grandfather and maternal grandmother were teachers so as a child I always enjoyed my parents’ stories about my grandparents’ days as teachers. During the pandemic I managed to continue teaching not only in postgraduate programmes as I usually did, but also to primary school students through programmes promoted by DANPER and it was a beautiful experience. I believe that teaching is a unique form of sharing and helping our youth, especially in a country such as Peru.
