Could you share an example of a time when you came up with an innovation that improved the way your legal team works and did not come at a huge cost?
Rather than an innovation as such, it is rather the definition of strategies that have had the result of considerably reducing, or in some cases eliminating, the tax debts that were to be collected from society. Strategies that have to do with technically and conceptually refuting the tax authorities’ observations, or with the management of procedural times and their impact on the computation of the statute of limitations.
What are some of the key developments that have affected your business over the past year?
The post-pandemic economic crisis and the war in Ukraine have affected the behaviour of the world minerals market, and all commodities in general, these crisis scenarios in turn generate greater pressure from governments on formal economic actors as a source of revenue.
How do you think the internal legal role will evolve in the coming years?
It seems to me that the role of in-house lawyers will evolve not only towards specialisation in the different areas of corporate law, as a natural response to market demands, but also as a response to the economic crisis which will make it necessary to have specialised professionals in the in-house structure.
Do you use any legal technology products and, if so, for what areas of your work do you find them most useful?
We use a system of programming and monitoring of activities based on which we plan and control the execution of our operations and our priorities. We also use technological tools, Difusión Jurídica Bolivia, to search for regulations and jurisprudence.
