Could you share an example of a time when you came up with an innovation that improved the way your legal team works and did not come at great cost?

In terms of innovation, our legal team decided to adopt technological tools, such as OneDrive and other freely accessible digital media, to share documents. This allowed us to manage a reservoir of legal documentation, so that it is constantly available without depending on the people in charge. This innovation has optimised our work time and facilitated online reviews by all involved.

We can also mention our contract systematisation project that allows access to current contracts in models available online. This generates a repository that is permanently updated. This adds value to the level of responsibility and agility in the preparation of contracts. This project was implemented specifically in the Milling Area, given the volume of operations and contracts handled in this area. These tools optimise time and make coordination and document review more efficient.

What are some of the key developments that have affected your business over the past year?

Alicorp is at the forefront of legal advances as well as commitment to sustainable development. One response from the company is precisely in its environmental, social, and governance (ESG) strategy, which is based on three axes. The first being community development, secondly the environment, and the third well-being. Through this strategy we generate positive impacts in our value chain and throughout Bolivian society, channel through various technological innovations, social projects with important donations, and capacity building of our strategic partners.

How do you think the in-house legal role will evolve in the coming years?

The in-house legal role at Alicorp has changed. It is no longer about traditional legal management, with the lawyer as an accessory, but rather having the lawyer as part of the business. Today the lawyer needs to have a deep understanding of the business he is a part of, and act as a pillar for the growth of the business and the achievement of its objectives. While they must also always ensure compliance and adherence to the rules and internal policy. Therefore, the legal management at Alicorp hopes to promote a creative work that contributes efficient results to the company. I believe that this role will continue to change to form more integrated teams and fully comply with the vision and mission of the company.

Do you use any “legal tech” products, and if so, for which areas of your work do you find them most useful?

As mentioned in the first question Alicorp uses systems that assist the company in issuing contracts in a faster and more secure way, and the company plans to implement a parallel corporate tool, so our challenge is to connect both tools. Alicorp has innovation in its DNA and that is why we believe it is important to use technology to improve legal support, business management, and optimise working times.
