Could you share an example of a time when you came up with an innovation that improved how your legal team works and did not come at a large expense?
I identified a series of gaps associated with poor document management within the company, which originated from the very beginning of a project. There was a high possibility of losing information that might be required for various purposes in the future, and the company’s interests could be compromised if that information was not available.
To mitigate the risks associated with improper document management and administration, we identified the possibility of integrating legal document management with SharePoint through technological development. This integration would involve creating workflows that allow for document traceability, creating records for each document, and carrying out the entire document creation process up to its signing. The documents would then be stored in a centralised system so that the information remains accessible for future actions, if needed.
How do you prioritise diversity and inclusion within your legal department, and what initiatives have you implemented to foster a more inclusive and equitable work environment?
I work for a company where a culture of diversity and inclusion has been established from the highest levels.
Diversity is as diverse as its own meaning, by this I mean that there is no single niche in which diversity and inclusion can be put into practice. In my case, I had the opportunity to bring on board a blind lawyer to my team, which might seem challenging given the nature of legal work that involves reading and writing most of the time. To overcome this, we learned about the tools needed in terms of physical infrastructure and technology. We realised that it is quite simple to adapt and achieve effective inclusion, and the hiring of this person was an absolute success.
What steps do you take to ensure the successful integration and adoption of new technologies among your team members?
Technology is a solution and new trends based on artificial intelligence, for example, are not competing with lawyers, but rather tools that facilitate simple tasks so that lawyers can focus on truly relevant work with quality time, to deliver with the highest standards.
Another crucial step is to identify genuine needs or gaps that are hindering your team’s work, understand the origin of those difficulties or gaps, and find a tool that allows you to solve them. This makes it easier to show the team that new technology will address a pain point for them and enable them to shine in what truly matters, which is beneficial for both the professionals and the company.
