Legal director | Compañía Dominicana de Teléfonos (CLARO)

First, can you please give us an idea of the sort of work your team has done recently?
Our team successfully managed to conclude the separation of a business unit that involved months of hard work and coordination to transfer the operation to a new company, preparing the required legal and corporate documentation, providing advice on labour, tax and commercial aspects to the new operation, all in house.
The legal team supports the adoption of best practices with the implementation of the headquarters’ integrity and compliance program, locally, including due diligence support for suppliers in the value chain
The legal team is also supporting the digital transformation, with the adoption of the digital signature in all its relationships and the digitalisation of its processes.
How do you stay up-to-date with changes in laws and regulations relevant to your organisation’s industry?
One of our objectives is the monitoring of both local and international legal standards and trends, which is done through constant monitoring of sources such as the National Congress and regulatory bodies. We also actively participate in the review of new regulatory projects, either directly or through the business and sector associations of which we are part.
What is a cause, business related or otherwise, that you care about, and why?
Overregulation and lack of analysis in the adoption of new regulations without impact surveys being carried out.
