First, can you please give us an idea of the sort of work your team has done recently?  

We assisted in the purchase of a major local player in the fuel market in Jamaica. The purchase implied Sol’s entry into that market, acquiring all the business lines operated (retail, commercial, LPG and aviation). From a legal point of view, this transaction involved the study of all the assets to be acquired, as well as the review and assistance in the implementation of the definitive agreements.  

How do you stay up-to-date with changes in laws and regulations in the Dominican Republic relevant to your organisation’s industry? 

I take advantage of the available training tools such as LinkedIn learning. In the same way, I keep up to date with the articles published by the law offices regarding new regulations.  

What is a cause, business related or otherwise, that you care about, and why?   

The aggressiveness of governments with tax collections. It would seem that the deficit created by the pandemic is being mitigated with unprecedented aggressiveness by tax administrations, which are taking novel legal positions to increase state coffers.
