The in-house legal team at Husky Energy has been led by senior vice president, general counsel and secretary James Girgulis QC since 2012, and has thrived under his leadership. The team is made up of talented lawyers who are specialists in the energy industry as well as in corporate and financial legal matters. Husky Energy’s main businesses are in the Integrated Corridor of Western Canada and the US, with its thermal production and downstream product lines, and its offshore product line in the Atlantic and Asia Pacific regions. In the last year the team has helped the company launch a new app that allows customers to pay for petrol and other retail services from their cars without having to insert or display a card at the pump. Additionally, the team is involved in the company’s potential sale of its integrated corridor business in Western Canada based in Prince George, British Columbia. This is part of a major restructure and refocusing of the company towards its offshore product and presents an exciting strategic challenge for the company and its legal team.
