Antonio Garcia Martinez
Secretary of the board and general counsel | Orange Spain
Antonio Garcia Martinez has been involved in the telecommunications sector since the onset of his legal career. He started in private practice at Cremades & Calvo-Sotelo, where over a two-year period he made an impression on peers with his work to gain the one of the first licenses that were awarded after the liberalisation of the Spanish telecommunications market and negotiate the first interconnection contracts that made it possible for multiple operators to perform in Spain.
Garcia moved in-house in July 1999 to join Colt Technology Services as a legal and regulatory director in Spain, and over the next eight years ensured the company’s compliance with several regulatory arrangements, whist dramatically improving relations with regulators. Garcia further cemented his already sterling industry reputation during his subsequent tenure as a legal and regulatory director at Jazztel.
Besides flawlessly handling all corporate, stock exchange, legal and regulatory issues, Garcia made significant contributed to Jazztel’s 2015 acquisition by Orange Spain, and assumed the position of legal commercial general counsel of Orange Spain immediately following the transaction. In October 2017, Garcia was promoted to his current role of secretary of the board and general counsel.
