National Bank of Canada
The National Bank of Canada is one of the “Big Six” strategically important banks in Canada, and the most prominent bank in Montreal. Its legal department is made up of some of the country’s top counsel, who are highly skilled in legal matters pertaining to financial services in corporate and investment banking. The Bank is a major player in securities brokerage, insurance, mutual funds, retirement and wealth management. Headquartered in Montreal, the Bank has an international reach through its overseas offices in Europe and the US. The Bank is embarking on major construction projects by building a new headquarters in Montreal, as well as remodelling its Toronto and Vancouver offices. The legal team has been heavily involved in these activities as well as new products and services offered by the Bank in the past year. These include its online mortgage pre-approval solution for personal banking clients, and its inclusion in J.P. Morgan’s peer to peer Interbank Information Network, making it the first Canadian bank to join.
