Could you share an example of a time when you came up with an innovation that improved how your legal team works and did not come at a large expense?  

Diversity and Inclusion are among the core foundations on which Deutsche Bank’s values are built. I took the initiative of setting up and leading the Diversity & Inclusion Council within the EMEA Legal team, which aims to bring together EMEA colleagues from different countries and, thus, diverse cultural backgrounds and experiences. Since its inception, Council members have promoted various initiatives within the EMEA Legal team with unmatched dedication. Some examples include external speaker presentations and tools that facilitate cultural cognizance. These have all been rolled out at no cost to the Bank but have contributed to raising D&I awareness among senior management and colleagues and fostered a sense of purpose. 

How important is choosing to work with external lawyers who align with your company’s values? Are you likely to reconsider what firms you work with based on this?   

All vendors onboarded, including external lawyers, must adhere to the principles in the DB Code of Conduct. In particular, they must operate as an equal opportunity employer, provide a healthy and safe working environment and support sustainable development. In addition, Deutsche Bank is highly committed to a values-based culture where workforce diversity and the promotion of an inclusive and respectful work environment are embraced, leveraged and respected. In this environment, it considers all vendors, including external lawyers, as an extension of its culture and brand, thus encouraging them to provide an inclusive and supportive working environment free of discrimination and harassment.
