Can you sum up the team culture or ethos, and give us a breakdown of what makes your legal team function so well?

The team functions as one team, despite being spread out across various parts of Asia Pacific, and all see each other as close business partners.

We work together on cross-region and Asia Pacific-wide projects, the most notable of which has been the launch of our FMC Contract Central which will enable the entire organisation to utilise one single platform to request and generate contracts.

Each lead sub-region legal counsel sits with that sub-region’s leadership team and can lend their voice to business-critical issues that go beyond just legal issues.

Together, the team has recruited ~100 colleagues from across various parts of the business across Asia Pacific to serve as compliance ambassadors, which ensures that ethics and compliance messages and regular training sessions are cascaded across all levels of the business by the relevant level peers, issues are escalated quickly via immediate channels and risks managed in a timelier manner.

The team has also established an annual tradition of holding compliance days, which entail 1-2 days of in-person and hybrid interactive sessions across an array of compliance topics in local language by the business colleagues. Topics range from ABAC to respect for people, conflict of interest, critical thinking and root cause analysis, and everything in between, and has resulted in compliance songs, music videos, slogans, poster competitions and more being produced and shared across the organisation, further strengthening FMC’s emphasis on E&C and making compliance relatable.

Where possible, the APAC legal team has joined the launches of new products that they have worked on, for example, the recent launch of one of our products to be sprayed on farms via drones in India. This results in a team that truly takes pride in the business objectives and outcomes and sees the impact of their work.

Our IP enforcement team is a highly strategic team comprised of business and IP counsel as well as key business stakeholders who work together in managing our technical patent enforcement strategy and execution.

We work collaboratively to support one another.
