What are the most significant cases or transactions that your legal team has recently been involved in?

Our legal team has been actively involved in several significant transactions recently. We successfully settled insurance claims without resorting to costly litigation; navigated the complex process of constructing and operating new property in Indonesia due to the constant change in law. This involved obtaining all the relevant permits and approvals from the different authorities.

We played an active role in the reopening of a resort after the challenges posed by the pandemic; facilitated the expansion of our property portfolio in various countries which involved negotiations with diverse parties. This includes securing favourable lease agreements and protecting the interests of the group.

Our team secured a favourable settlement in an encroachment dispute, protecting our owner’s property rights and avoiding prolonged litigation, and we developed a robust defence strategy to shield from employment-related litigation.

How does the in-house legal team contribute to the overall dispute resolution strategy of the organisation?

Our diverse in-house team brings a wealth of advantages to the organisation’s dispute resolution strategy. Having team members with diverse cultural experiences enhance the organisation’s ability to navigate cross-cultural negotiations as they may have a deeper understanding of the specific legal systems and customs in the region or country.

A diverse team also possess language skills that are crucial in dealing with multilingual or international disputes. Our team is also fortunate to have Vic Faulkner, an experienced professional with extensive experience, who is able to identify risks that may not be immediately apparent, ensuring that legal efforts are integrated into the broader business strategy.
