Could you share an example of a time when you came up with an innovation that improved how your legal team works and did not come at a large expense?

In a previous role at a technology company, the legal team was engaged in an ongoing digital transformation journey, during which we created a set of new contract templates that reflected various commercial software licensing models. These contract templates incorporated “terms sheets” that could be completed by the business team or integrated into the existing sales CRM platform, Salesforce CPQ, to automatically generate contracts and facilitate the use of digital signatures.

This resulted in much faster “time to contract” and increased the number of contracts executed each month. Empowering the business to “self-service” a wider range of contracts reduced the administrative workload undertaken by our team. No additional budget was required for this project, as we leveraged existing systems and collaborated with internal experts across the organisation.

What are the most significant cases or transactions that your legal team has recently been involved in?

A key strategic company-wide business transformation program currently underway at SEEK is ‘Platform Unification.’ SEEK currently operates online employment marketplaces across eight countries in the Asia-Pacific region, encompassing more than 40 million employment candidate records. Platform Unification aims to merge the platforms that support the employment marketplace brands SEEK, JobStreet, and JobsDB across Asia-Pacific into a single online technology platform. Internal business systems are also being unified across the Asia-Pacific region. Our team has been playing a key role in providing legal support for this strategic program of work.

What is a cause, business-related or otherwise, that you care about, and why?

Anxiety and depression have affected those close to me. Former colleagues and others in the legal profession have also privately shared their mental health struggles. Unfortunately, lawyers consistently rank among one of the occupations in Australia with the highest prevalence of mental health problems. While the cause of this correlation is still unclear, it underscores the importance of research-based support and resources to help those in need. I have been fortunate to contribute to the mental health charity Beyond Blue, and I hope to continue doing so in the future.
