Zahori Martinez Calva
General counsel | Siemens Mobility Spain
LATAM countries your role covers: Colombia, Ecuador, Argentina, Brazil, México, Dominican Republic
What are the most significant cases and transactions in the LATAM region that you or your legal team have recently been involved in?
Siemens Mobility Spain’s legal team participates in international tenders for projects related to railway signalling, electrification, and maintenance systems in Mexico, Colombia, Ecuador, Brazil, Argentina, and the Dominican Republic. We provide advice during the bidding phase, assisting in the identification of risks and opportunities, and continue to support throughout the execution of the projects that are finally awarded.
The projects, with major public investments, are key for the development of infrastructure and contribute to increasing the reliability and capacity of transportation, ultimately improving the quality of life for the people. Siemens’ management holds a clear vision focused on sustainability and innovation. The technology provided by our company allows for the efficient management of train circulation and ensuring safety—a fundamental requirement in these kinds of projects. Given the relevance of our projects, the legal team plays an essential role in every project milestone.
What are your organisations plans in the LATAM region over the next 12 months and how will your legal expertise help to achieve these plans?
Our company will continue to execute the projects that have been awarded, as well as participate in opportunities launched by governments that align with our expertise in railway signalling systems and electrification.
The Siemens Mobility Spanish team consists of lawyers from various countries who are experts in contract management. We operate not only in Latin America but also around the world, spanning more than 20 countries. We engage in projects where the technology developed in Spain aligns with the demands of our customers, primarily public infrastructure and railway operators. Through the different profiles and expertise of our team, as well as the collaborative network we have within the Siemens Group, we can provide accurate legal advice to support our business.
How do you adapt your legal counselling to align with the diverse business practices and customs of various LATAM countries?
Every region and each country has its own way of doing business, which depends on the perspectives of the local market, culture, and the economic, social, and political context. It is essential to understand the particularities of each project. We can achieve this understanding not only because our Spanish team is international but also because within Siemens, we have a strong legal network around the world. Therefore, we enjoy excellent collaboration that gives us an advantage when we need to analyse the legal risks and opportunities for each case.
