Hewlett Packard Enterprise’s legal department was founded in 2015, when Hewlett Packard spun off into two separate companies – Hewlett Packard Enterprise and HP Inc. Shortly after its inception, HPE’s legal team drew up a competitive-boost dual strategy geared toward taking on bigger deals, while automating low-revenue ones. Manuel Mejia, Country Counsel for Colombia and Panama says, ‘this dual strategy allows us to concentrate our efforts on providing rapid-response legal support on the big deals ensuring our participation in a greater number of deals and bidding processes. We have also kept up our track of low-risk digital- and electronic-signature contracts and agreements, which fuels our efficiency in terms of time and money, while being environmentally friendly’. 2016, was a particularly challenging year for the legal team, with Hewlett Packard Enterprise branching out on its own to merge its enterprise-services business unit with CSC Corp: HPE legal successfully steered through all that merger’s legal aspects in both Colombia and Panama, even as it took on a third major company spin-off slated for completion by August 2017. Mejia says, ‘our strategic moves, without a doubt, ensure that Hewlett Packard Enterprise will stay the course as an effectively profitable and competitive company, while honing vital experience within legal team, now better able to take on more and help the company stay on the cutting-edge of competitive relevancy’.
