Having entered the Colombian market in 1993 following its acquisition of assets in the Llanos basin, today Perenco operates a large number of oil and gas contracts in both the Tolima and Casanare Departments. A significant milestone in Perenco’s history in the region was the acquisition of Petrobas Colombia (PEC) in 2014, which has seen the company acquire 11 onshore exploration and production blocks and initiate its participation in the Colombia and Alto Magdalena oil pipelines. Receiving acclaim for facilitating this transaction, as well as for seamlessly integrating both assets and staff into Perenco’s operation, the legal function has become an indispensable part of the company. The team’s responsibilities centre primarily on providing legal management of all processes of the company with its partners, public authorities and stakeholders and negotiating contracts for oilfield services. It also provides strategic advice on Perenco’s relations with employees and unions and helps direct the company strategy on all judicial processes. The team’s participation in Perenco’s corporate social responsibility programmes in Colombia is widely known – offering support to projects that improve the environment, education, health, culture and sport on a local level.
