Few consumers are familiar with the name Lactalis, though many will know its brands Président cheese and butter or Galbani mozzarella to name but a few. In fact, Lactalis is a global leader within the dairy industry and is present across all the categories of this market. The Group is the number one cheese manufacturer in the world, and the European leader within the milk consumption, butter and cream markets. Lactalis employs 75,000 persons worldwide, generates €17bn in turnover, and operates 229 production facilities in 43 countries. Its legal function manages to cope with a compact, mostly France-based legal team and a few in-house counsels worldwide. The team is led by group general counsel Hervé Bouchet, who has started his career in Lactalis. Among other members of Bouchet’s team, Jean-Philippe Gille is the head of governance and compliance.
