French multinational company Veolia earns a global annual revenue of around €30bn from its four main environmental operating services and utility areas, namely water management, waste management, public transport and energy services. Since 2009, the legal team has been headed by Eric Haza who serves as chief legal officer. He is supported by a high functioning team comprised of some of the best in-house lawyers in the country including executive vice-president and general counsel Helman le Pas de Sécheval, deputy general counsel Ivan de Goullard d’Arsay and Jean-Marc Guillot who is head of litigation and arbitration. Another distinguished member of the team is Fabien Moles who, as head of legal finance, is responsible for all legal matters relating to bond issuances, corporate loans, structured finance and derivatives among others. Meanwhile, as head of competition, procurement and insurance law, Ariane Oesterreicher also plays a key role in the team. Working in tandem with its legal counterparts based in Veolia’s international locations, the team is able to analyse, coordinate, contribute and oversee much of the Group’s recent activities from a €156m contract to improve water systems in Sri Lanka to winning three energy services contracts worth €864m in total with industrial clients in China. Closer to home, members of the team recently facilitated a shareholder agreement between Caisse des Dépôts and Veolia over their joint venture which includes the sale of a 20% stake in return for €220m as well as the inauguration of ServO, a state-of-the-art management centre. That development is in association with SEDIF, the public entity responsible for producing and distributing drinking water in Paris.
