How do you approach managing legal aspects during periods of instability or crises, and how does your legal strategy align with the broader business strategy to ensure the organisation’s resilience?  

Our legal strategy is closely aligned with Clariant’s business strategy, which focuses on customers, innovation, sustainability, and people. One of the most important aspects is maintaining an open and clear communication channel between legal, executive leadership team, business units and other functions. This ensures that legal considerations are integrated into the broader business strategy, enhancing Clariant’s ability to navigate difficult situations. As an example, the legal team is integrated into crisis management teams to provide timely legal advice and support. The key is to foster collaboration between legal and other departments and to stay proactive in addressing legal challenges during turbulent times. 

What emerging technologies do you see as having the most significant impact on the legal profession in the near future, and how do you stay updated on these developments?  

In 2024, the utilisation of artificial intelligence is one of our key priorities. We initiated several projects across all teams of the legal function (legal, compliance and IP management) with the aim to define use cases and implement AI tools in order to support our activities and gain efficiency. The current focus lies on AI related to contract analysis and data analytics.
