What would you say are the unique qualities required to be successful as an in-house lawyer in your industry?

In my view, to excel as an in-house counsel in this industry, a blend of legal expertise, business acumen, and interpersonal skills is imperative. Fundamental to success in this role is the ability to stay well-versed in the legal and regulatory landscapes, both domestically and internationally, ensuring the company’s adherence to relevant laws.

Additionally, proficiency in contract negotiation and drafting, particularly in areas like licensing agreements, distribution agreements, and collaborations, is crucial. Effective stakeholder management skills are a necessity, involving the cultivation of strong relationships with key players in product development, regulatory affairs, and sales and marketing. This entails providing clear and comprehensible legal guidance to non-legal stakeholders.

Finally, a paramount factor for success lies in comprehending the company’s strategy and strategically contributing as legal counsel to help achieve corporate goals.

How have you fostered a closer collaboration between the legal department and your business counterparts?

I strive to work as a business partner for relevant stakeholders and maintain ongoing dialogues with them. Through this ongoing dialogue, I am able to gain valuable insight into their priorities as well as those of the business. This, in turn, allows me to offer the best assistance possible when there is a need.

My professional mission is to make a difference for a better world, which I fulfil in my current position by supporting the vision and values of AJ Vaccines. Our mission is to produce safe and effective vaccines for global health and combat emerging infectious diseases.
