What are the most significant cases or transactions that your legal team has recently been involved in?

RelyOn Nutec acquired a stake in Australian based Thomson Bridge in 2022 and in 2023 the remaining shares were secured. This is a key addition for the business, which will enable us to continue to support the renewable industry and the energy transition with a broader range of services. This is a significant step to achieve RelyOn Nutec’s strategy “Recharge”.

Further, we also completed a successful refinancing process replacing the existing bond financing with a new sustainable linked bond emphasising the importance and continued focus on sustainability. This project was affected successfully because of excellent cooperation between multiple functions in the company, including the sustainability, legal and financing team.

What would you say are the unique qualities required to be successful as an in-house lawyer in your industry?

The most important quality is a strong business acumen. I have been with RelyOn Nutec for more than five years and I have, over the years, developed a detailed and comprehensive understanding of the industry and the business, which I consider a valuable quality in my function. In addition, I have been closely involved in the strategic work over the years, which warrants an in-dept knowledge of the must-win battles and a clear understanding of the priorities. With this knowledge I can support and drive key initiatives.

Further, as an in-house lawyer it is also a key quality to be agile and ready to adapt to changes in strategy, projects and targets. Projects and initiatives will continuously change, and you will need to be able to establish pragmatic and inventive solutions to legal issues while balancing legal risks against business interests.

How have you fostered a closer collaboration between the legal department and your business counterparts?

Collaboration is crucial to be able to support the business. You need to be able to collaborate effectively across the entire organisation and different employee groups and you need to proceed with a sense of urgency.

I believe that this collaboration is best achieved by availability, communication and relationship building. This will ensure the best understanding of ongoing projects and initiatives. As an in-house legal function, the key objective is to support the business and the best way to achieve this, is for the business and stakeholders to understand and appreciate the value of the legal input and advice and to regard the legal team as a vital partner and key contributor to any project. This will ensure that the legal function is included throughout any process.

Do you have a cause, business-related or otherwise, that you are passionate about?

The mission of RelyOn Nutec is to protect people, assets and the environment. For me this mission provides a clear direction and are aligned with my personal values.
