Could you share with us the story of your path to becoming an in-house counsel? What motivated you to choose this career path?

I started my career in a law office and worked over more than 5 years as a lawyer and after that, I had a chance to move to an in-house part of legal practice with the available position where I work today. To work in a corporate environment and represent the company with an official title as a legal counsellor motivated me to choose this internal legal practice career path. The corporate environment and becoming a part of a team in the company make feel me more beneficial and sense of belonging to the company than before. I have been working towards the way of becoming a general counsel in the future and improving my skills in legal practice to be successful within this career path.

In your role as an in-house counsel, what are the main responsibilities and tasks you handle on a day-to-day basis?

I can easily order my responsibilities and tasks as below-mentioned ones:

  • to follow legal changes in legislations relating to Banking law and other legal aspects and to inform all relating departments of the bank about these changes with adding my comment and rephrase these changes to make them easy to read for our internal clients;
  • to draw up contracts and letters that are to be used in the transactions of the bank.,
  • to write response letters to official authorities’ letters.
  • to prepare internal documents and directives for compliance requirement of the bank
  • to prepare educational documents and presentations to my internal clients about introducing their obligations while they do their job.

What are some of the key challenges you have faced as a rising star in-house counsel, and how have you overcome them?

When I moved to a position as an in-house counsel in the bank, ı was obliged to work as a sole practitioner there. This was a really big challenge for me while I was trying to learn the process within the company and my main responsibilities there. Then, I started to make more effort to overcome this challenge by reading internal documents and get information from these documents about my role and after that, I got used to work as an in-house counsel even though numerous changes in legislations had been made over past years. Nowadays, ı have been improving my executive skills and tried to make a work-life balance.
