What are the most significant cases or transactions that you have recently been involved in?

I have been a part of the working team at the Thai Bankers Association, preparing standard documentation for the transition from LIBOR-based interest rates to SOFR-based interest rates, with the help of Baker & McKenzie Bangkok serving as legal counsel to the Thai Bankers Association.

Could you share an example of a time when you came up with an innovation that improved how your legal team works and did not come at a large expense? 

We use an AI-powered search engine and a finely tuned large language model for the review of legal documents, all of which is based on open-source software developed internally at no cost.

How do you see the general counsel role evolving in Thailand over the next five-ten years? 

General counsel will likely need to integrate AI tool into their provision of legal services to business units.

Which recent political, economic or regulatory changes have impacted your work the most in recent years?

Most recently, it has been the transition from LIBOR-based interest rates to SOFR-based interest rates.

How do you motivate and manage your legal team well?

We emphasise openness, allowing all team members to review and critique each other’s work regardless of seniority. Additionally, we promote ownership by giving team members the authority to manage their own work within the team’s guidelines and take responsibility for the outcomes.

Are the effects of AI on the legal world overplayed, or underplayed?

I think the effects have been significantly underplayed. There is still much more room for us to utilise AI in legal work.
