  What are the most significant cases and transactions that your legal team has recently been involved in? 

 In the past year, our legal team has been actively involved in several high-profile cases and significant transactions that have not only showcased our expertise but also contributed to substantial outcomes for the organisation. Here are some of the highlights:

  1. Main legal advisor for organisation with over 1000 staff. Handled several labour disputes at the Employment and Labour Relations Court and negotiation successfully negotiated out of court settlement. Additionally, negotiated Trade Union representative and including dealings with Parliamentary Committee on issues of labour and Trade Unions.
  2. Set up various board and board committees and oversaw board evaluation, induction and set up of a board committee.
  3. Involved in review of the Special Economic Zones Act to align with East Africa Community Policy of SEZ. Involved as part of the expert team in negotiation of EAC SEZ Regulations.
  4. Handled several take over(s) and sale transaction involving sale of more than 50% stake in local bank.

Which recent political, economic or regulatory changes have impacted your work the most in recent years? 

Several changes in law have affected my working, I am currently working on negotiation and review of Special Economic Zones Regulations at East Africa level as part of the technical team in negotiation of harmonized EAC regulation in the region. During my working in the banking sector there have been several changes including interest rate capping and customer information sharing rules that impacted on my work.

I was the legal lead in- house advisory for M-Shwari a revolutionary micro lending that was launched in 2012 in Kenya. This revolutionalised micro lending in Kenya.

Are there any causes, business or otherwise, that you are passionate about?

I am passionate about the rights of young girls and access to education.
