Shaimaa Sebak
Director legal and corporate governance | Telecom Egypt
Shaimaa Sebak first joined Telecom Egypt as an associate in the company’s regulatory legal affairs department in 2004, and through her strengths in management and advice on business and legal matters has worked her way up in the ranks ever since, later becoming a manager in the corporate legal affairs department and then a senior legal manager for international affairs.
She assumed her current position as director, legal and corporate governance in December 2016. Sebak has utilised her areas of specialism in telecommunication laws, commercial contracts drafting and claims handling to overcome all challenges faced by the telecommunications industry. Having to lead a team that covers a broad range of jurisdictions covering the Middle East and Africa, Sebak has effectively kept abreast of changing regulations in a competitive telecoms market that moves at an extremely fast pace.
Telecom Egypt connects more than seventeen cable systems through seven diversified routes and five landing stations across Egypt and hence requires a high level of risk management and mitigation. It is here where Sebak has succeeded in handling domestic and international customer relations by being involved in contracts drafting and negotiations, managing the in-house legal function within a multinational corporate environment.
During her time at Telecom Egypt – which extends to over a decade – she has worked towards improving the efficiency of the team, enhancing the profile of all legal professionals in the in-house legal function and maintaining a high level of legal standards throughout.
