Created as a public company in 1976, Sonangol EP is the sole concessionaire for oil and gas exploration on the subsoil and continental shelf of Angola. General counsel of the company since September 2016, Tiago Neto is a skilled in-house lawyer with a demonstrated history of working in the oil and energy industry.

Since taking this position, he has already been active in aiding the company by working on a number of matters including public tenders. In addition to his role as general counsel, Neto also occupies the positions of Sonangol’s international litigations coordinator and legal manager for Sonaci, Sonangol’s trading arm. Neto initially joined the company in 2007 as a legal adviser for oil and gas law and tax issues.

As a legal adviser he also worked on Sonangol’s international upstream business negotiating and drafting finance agreements, risk service agreements, incorporated joint ventures in addition to advising on upstream transactions in Latin America. Demonstrating his commitment to the industry, Neto lectures on oil and gas contracts at the Bar Association of Angola as a visiting professor.
