Country Head of legal and compliance and company secretary | Standard Chartered Bank of Tanzania
In 2017, UK-based financial services company Standard Chartered Bank celebrated 100 years of operating in Tanzania. Walarick Nittu’s association with the Standard Chartered Bank’s Tanzanian subsidiary began in 2013, when he joined as country head of legal and compliance and company secretary – a position he still holds.
A well respected in-house lawyer in the region, Nittu has excelled at transitioning into the financial sector by facilitating the company’s launch of new products and services tailored to the Tanzanian market. His main responsibilities are leading the legal and compliance team in delivering functional support to the business, and provide corporate secretarial, governance and advisory services to the board of directors.
Before 2013, Nittu spent over eight years in the Tanzania’s telecommunications sector at Vodacom Tanzania, his last role there being chief officer for legal and regulatory affairs. From 2000 until 2005 Nittu worked in the legal department of major South African mining company AngloGold Ashanti at the Geita Gold Mine in Tanzania.
