In terms of its Kenyan subsidiary, new regulations in the Kenyan marine cargo insurance market have provided the opportunity for Sanlam to strengthen its position in the country through the provision of insurance products across a wide range of marine risks. These new regulations, will which take effect in early 2017, are aimed at placing marine business in Kenya exclusively with locally registered insurance underwriters, in a market that is said to be worth approximately £240m each year. In securing a slice of this potentially lucrative market, Sanlam will be relying on the careful management of its legal staff.
