AngloGold Ashanti Ghana
AngloGold Ashanti has 14 mines and three projects in ten countries. In Ghana, the legal department is led by head of legal services and company secretary Juliet Ofeibea Manteaw-Kutin, who helps develop the company’s mining and engineering projects in Ghana. An example is the October 2018 finalisation of a five year underground and mining contract at the Obuasi re-development project with Underground Mining Alliance (UMA), a joint venture between African Underground Mining Services (AUMS) and Accra-based Rocksure International, a wholly-owned Ghanaian mining contractor. The agreement is valued at US$375m over five years and will help mechanise underground mining expertise within Ghana’s local mining and engineering sector, given that Rocksure will work closely with Australia’s AUMS. The legal department encourages the creation of the joint ventures, giving AngloGold Ashanti the chance to demonstrate its commitment to increasing meaningful participation in the redevelopment of the Obuasi orebody, which has 5.8Moz of ore Reserves and 34Moz in Mineral Resource, and will have an initial mine life of approximately 20 years.
