Based in Mauritius, international investment group Ciel, operates in five business clusters; agro and property, textile, hotels and resorts, finance and healthcare and is present in more than 10 countries across emerging markets in Africa and Asia, with approximately 30,000 employees. The Mauritius legal team is led by the highly-praised Christine Sauzier who joined Ciel in 2006 as senior executive legal affairs and was promoted to head of legal affairs of 2010. The in-house legal function she manages work on several deals, including important M&A work, most notably in cross-border deals in various countries where the group is invested, such as Sub-Saharan Africa, the Indian Ocean and Asia. The legal team advises management on compliance matters and many other issues related to deal structuring and shareholder matters, while also liaising with international and local lawyers for drafting and reviewing commercial contracts and other legal documents.
