Diamond Bank began as a private limited company in 1991. Ten years later in 2001, it became a universal bank and in 2005 following a highly successful private placement share offer which substantially raised the Bank’s equity base, Diamond Bank was listed on The Nigerian Stock Exchange. Led by company secretary and legal adviser Uzoma Uja, the Nigerian legal department is comprised of 36 lawyers in Nigeria, the UK and Diamond Bank covering The Ivory Coast, Senegal, Togo and Benin Republic. Multinational Nigerian financial service provider, Diamond Bank is Nigeria’s fastest growing bank and operates 267 branches in Nigeria. Over the years the bank has won a number of awards, marking its value and ongoing strength in the continent. In 2006 they were awarded “Best Bank in Mergers & Acquisitions, 2006” a feat that was largely attributed to the legal departments work. Some of their most important deals include negotiating the deal in which Carlyle Group becoming a significant shareholder in November 2014, following its US$147m investment in the bank, this was a major milestone for Diamond Bank and a sign of confidence in the Bank’s market strength.
