With over 50 years in the continent, ENGIE Africa is active in a variety of countries through its power generation, energy services, and micro-grid/off-grid subsidiaries. The 12-member legal team in Africa is led by general counsel and ethics officer, Hillary Berger, an experienced lawyer with over 20 years’ experience in the areas of project finance and M&A deals in over five continents. Under her management, the legal team assist in ENGIE’s ongoing goal of becoming a reference partner in Africa for power generation, renewables, and energy services to businesses, communities, companies and households. The ENGIE Africa legal team successes in the past 12 months include achieving financial close of the 250MW Gulf of Suez wind farm in Egypt (MENA Wind Deal of the Year for 2017); signing two PPAs in Senegal under the World Bank’s Scaling Solar program; the development of eight hybrid solar power plants in Gabon; and completing M&A transactions of more than $100m in value with multiple pan-African energy players active in energy services and solar home systems.
