The legal function at KTDA, one of the largest private tea management agencies in Kenya, is led by assistant general manager of legal and regulatory affairs Susan Musyoka and currently manages 67 tea processing companies in the small-scale tea sub-sector in Kenya. The KTDA group of companies comprises of eight fully operational subsidiaries with interests in: warehousing; insurance brokerage; micro-finance; tea marketing; supply of equipment required for tea processing, steel plants, fertiliser factories and other industrial projects; and electric power production, for the supply of electricity to the tea processing factories. This electric power subsidiary is currently developing several run-of-river hydro power projects, with several having been commissioned. The team is able to ensure that KTDA’s extensive business operations are fully compliant from a legal perspective. Regarding Musyoka, one nominator identified that she ‘is able to deliver on high value deals, including a syndicated project financing for the development of several run-of river hydro power projects’.
