Leading South African video entertainment company MultiChoice Holding operates under various brands including Dstv, M-Net, SuperSport and GOtv and was formed out of the subscriber-management branch of the M-Net Terrestrial Pay TV company. The legal department has previously worked on acquiring a number of subsidiaries, strengthening the company’s reputation and helping it branch onto other service areas. Amongst these subsidiaries, DStv Mobile, has assisted the company in delivering television transmissions to mobile devices such as laptops, smart phones and notebooks. Group general counsel Brandon Foot leads the legal team to deal with legal matters and acquisitions of sports broadcasting rights for SuperSport reporting to the Naspers Video Entertainment Group CEO. The legal team is particularly skilled in the areas of sport and legal functions, acquisition of sports broadcasting rights, media rights and commercial and sports law. MultiChoice South Africa and the University of Pretoria also announced a partnership, intending to develop and sustain artificial intelligence, specifically machine learning technology skills in South Africa. The partnership will result in MultiChoice sponsoring a Research Chair of machine learning at the University of Pretoria. The legal team has also helped with MultiChoice’s recent plans to slash the price of GOtv decoder in a way that will allow customers at the 38th Lagos International Trade Fair holding at the Tafawa Balewa Square in November 2018, an initiative that will ensure that quality entertainment is made available to customers at an affordable price.
