Founded in 1960, the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) services the largest economy in Africa and is an automated exchange providing listing and trading services, as well as electronic clearing, settlement and delivery services. As a core part of an organisation at the heart of accelerating Africa’s economic development, NSE’s in-house legal department have been central to providing high quality legal advice. The legal team is led by general counsel and head legal services department Irene Robinson-Ayanwale, who joined in September 2013 in the capacity of legal adviser, head of legal department and was promoted to her current role in August 2018. Overseeing the legal details behind trading on shares of various large companies, the legal department has to ensure that accounts comply with all applicable rules, simultaneously securing relationships with businesses in a volatile financial environment and staying on top of stringent regulatory and legislative changes.
