Sasol is an integrated energy and chemical company formed in South Africa in 1950. Today it is listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange and develops and commercialises technologies, including synthetic fuels technologies, and produces different liquid fuels, chemicals and electricity. The company’s legal department successfully deals with a range of complex legal transactions in the energy market to maintain Sasol’s position as a pioneer in the hydrocarbon area. They have been central to the facilitation of Sasol setting up exploration, development, production, marketing and sales operations in 36 countries across the world. In 2018, the legal department have been involved in a number of new company instalments, namely Sasol and Air Liquide inaugurating an R2.9bn air separation unit at Secunda Synfuels Operations and Sasol Mining inaugurating the Shondoni Colliery as part of its R14bn mine replacement programme.
